From Drag Race to SAS: TV to binge next

My top 12 lockdown TV shows

There has been quite a few TV shows on the go in my house during lockdown because I often get to the point of wanting something new to watch for a change.

Whether it’s short comedies, lengthy dramas or American trash you’re looking for I’ve got you covered!

1. Childhood classics - Disney+

I’ve started with Hannah Montana but the day I made my watchlist was my happiest day of lockdown/the year. Being able to see all my old favourite shows, ready to watch all over again, brought back all the mems. Lizzie McGuire, Recess AND Zack and Cody? Really, what could be better?

2. Community - Netflix, Amazon Prime & 4oD

My go to feel good series that might just take the top spot of my favourite TV show. The writing is so clever and definitely sums my humour up in one show. If you haven’t seen it, it really is time to make a Chang.

3. Friends - Netflix

Say no more we all binge Friends at least once a year and if you don’t you’re wrong...

4. One Tree Hill - Amazon Prime

My friends take the p*ss out of me for how much I talk about this show but it honestly makes me so happy! There are plenty of different storylines, a lovable cast and a large pool of characters to fall in love with. It brought me Brooke Davis, my all time favourite TV character. You’ll laugh and most definitely cry but it’s definitely a story you need to see if you love a crappy American drama (Gossip Girl / Gilmore girls vibes if you’ve seen those!) Oh and Chad Michael Murray is a main character so say no more.

5. Normal People - BBC iPlayer

A newer edition this lockdown but an exceptional love story that I’m sure you’ve heard people talking about. Connell and Marianne are the characters I didn’t know I needed.

6. This is England - 4oD

If you’re looking for a gripping drama This is England is a go to. It started with a film and follows with 3 TV series but the story is one of the best I’ve ever seen told, something I discussed with my old media teacher a lot. Nothing has had me laughing one minute and frozen with tears the next.

7. Drag Race - Netflix

Something that’s very easy to become obsessed with! My sister told me to watch from US season 8 and I’ve been watching ever since. UK Drag Race aired late last year and is definitely another must watch on BBC iPlayer.

8. Celebrity SAS - Channel 4

Probably not something you’d expect me to mention amongst my other choices but I loved the latest series! It makes I’m a Celeb look easy and was the first programme in a while I’ve been fully gripped to.

9. Tiger King - Netflix

If you haven’t seen it you’ve definitely heard of it and if you have seen it oh my word isn’t it a bit mad?? Still can’t figure out who did what and who’s the real bad guy but it’s certainly worth the watch.

10. The OC - Amazon Prime

Another crappy American drama, but sometimes trash is what you need! Easy watching, and will definitely give you house envy with the series being based in Orange County California.

11. New Girl - Netflix & Amazon Prime

I have seen this show a few times before and always loved it, and it has recently become my “I don’t know what to watch so let’s watch this” programme and I’m loving it! Because I’ve seen it all before it’s a good one to have on in the background or to tune in when I’m hooked on one of the characters in an episode. My kind of humour and the characters are my kind of people.

12. Modern Family - Netflix

A late entry and something I’ve only just started but it’s easy watching and has the right level of humour to make a feel good show.

Hopefully this gives you something new to watch or just a reminder of a show you haven’t seen in a while. If I’m honest, it won’t be long before I rewatch One Tree Hill for the 3rd time but at least I’ve watched a few newbies during lockdown.

Happy binging!
